Haroon spoke on many subjects, racism, apartheid in South Africa, and he tried to make the concept of rule by people and democratic principles palatable to a British audience, and visitors from elsewhere visiting London and Speakers Corner.
In an interview with Eastern Times, May 18, 1978 Haroon M Jadhakhan defended himself against suggestions that he is just one of those ‘‘crackpots’ who has nothing better to stand on the Hyde Park platform
“There may be a certain amount of truth in this and perhaps this applies to some of my British colleagues. I think the British recognize crackpots among themselves pretty quickly. Eccentricity is also a very British trait. As for us – I speak now about the mainly Black speakers who are concerned about racism, exploitation and the mischievous role still being played by imperialism in our affairs – we are all mature men who are using the platform to educate and enlighten British people and foreigners on the true nature of the forces working for the brotherhood of man. We are not jokers and while it is true we have, perforce, to be sharp and witty to take care of hecklers, who, if you are not well equipped can verbally demoralise and destroy you, we always strive to be educative and informative.
Hyde Park has been a bastion of free speech for many years. It has produced numerous national liberation fighters such as Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, The Late Lord Soaper, the Late Prime Minister of New Zealand, David Lange. Furthermore Hyde Park also produced Nobel Prize winner in Literature, such as George Bernard Shaw and scores of academic and intellectuals to be reckoned with. Indeed after many of my speeches I have Germans, French, Italians, Swedes, Arabs and Pakistanis. in fact a significant sample of the global population coming to meet and thank me for revealing the true facts of imperialist barbarity and domination of the third world. Amritsar massacre, Mylai massacre, Sharpeville massacre are just a few which come to mind. ”
